Abstract

Regular access to space beyond LEO would enables many small satellite exploration missions that would otherwise be infeasible or infrequent. An approach for dispensing small satellites from the regularly launched (~20 / year) commercial GEO satellites has been developed by SSL and will have a first flight in 2016. This regular access to Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO) or Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) relieves the access to space and propulsion system constraints for cubesats and other smallsats missions for high Earth Orbit, Lunar, NEO, Mars and other planetary missions.
