There is a great desire to fly CubeSat components in harsher environments (GTO, GEO, Interplanetary). However, the majority of CubeSat components have been developed for LEO applications. Flying in these harsh environments doesn’t necessarily mean that we abandon the hardware developed for LEO, but instead requires a core, radiation tolerant platform to build from, and a concept of operations that accommodates system recovery from upsets. This talk will discuss and define a radiation tolerant core, and how a system is built on top of it.
